FAQs

Can I bring my cell phone or other electronic devices?

While cell phones can be brought for travel purposes, once the program begins, we will collect cell phones from participants to foster a disconnect from electronics during the experience. There is no cellphone reception at the Educo site or during the backcountry trip. Internet access is not available to participants. Parents can contact the site office in case of emergencies. We recommend leaving non-essential electronics at home, but we understand that due to travel plans and lengthy travel times, electronics can be helpful for the journey. After airport pick-up, we will require participants to hand in any electronics.

Do I need to bring everything on the equipment list?

Yes, the items on the equipment list are essential for your safety and comfort. If you cannot acquire specific items, please contact us in advance to confirm if we can provide them.

Do you rent or lend equipment?

Yes, we have a limited supply of:

  • Sleeping bags (rental fee: CAD 15 for the program duration)
  • Hiking boots, backpacks, and rain gear (available to borrow at no cost, subject to availability)

Can you accommodate specific dietary requirements?

Yes! Our kitchen staff can accommodate a variety of dietary needs, including:

  • Halal
  • Vegetarian
  • Vegan
  • Gluten-free
  • Dairy-free

Please provide detailed information about your dietary preferences or restrictions in the medical form during registration.

Can I bring my own snacks?

Due to allergy concerns and to prevent attracting wildlife, participants are not allowed to bring their own snacks. Rest assured, we provide ample food, including healthy snacks, throughout the program.

What about medication and allergies?

  • All medications must be disclosed in advance and brought in clearly labeled original containers. Our team will store and oversee the safe administration of medications.
  • For allergies, please inform us of the severity in advance. We are committed to minimizing exposure to allergens and can provide a nut-free environment if required.

Should I bring money?

No, you will not need any spending money during the program. JUMP! merchandise will be available for purchase at the Open House (CAD 25 for t-shirts, CAD 60 for hoodies). Money for snacks or meals while traveling to Vancouver during layovers is recommended.

How fit do I need to be?

The program involves physical activities such as hiking, canoeing, and climbing. A moderate level of fitness is recommended. Activities are tailored to the group’s overall capabilities, and we move at the pace of the slowest participant. If you have concerns, please contact us for guidance.

What is your alcohol, smoking, vaping, and substance policy?

We have a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol, smoking, vaping, and substance use. Participants found with any prohibited items will be immediately removed from the program.

How is safety managed?

Safety is our top priority. All staff are certified in Wilderness First Aid, and we use industry-approved equipment for all activities. Satellite communication devices are carried during backcountry trips for emergencies.

Will language be a barrier?

No. Our facilitators are trained to work with international participants and provide clear instructions. Many staff members are fluent in multiple languages, and we will provide support to ensure understanding and comfort.

What are the sleeping arrangements?

Participants will stay in shared cabins (up to 10 students per cabin, grouped by gender identity). During the backcountry trip, participants will sleep in tents.

What happens on the last day of the program?

On the final day, participants will return to Vancouver for a farewell celebration and reflective activities. Parents can join a virtual Open House to hear about their child’s achievements and experiences. Transportation to the airport will be provided.

Is there electricity at the site?

The Educo site is off-grid, powered by solar panels. Electricity is available in common areas for essential needs, but participants are encouraged to disconnect and enjoy the natural environment.

What is the food like?

We provide delicious and nutritious meals tailored to participant preferences. Here are some examples:

  • Breakfast: Pancakes, cereal, fresh fruit
  • Lunch: Wraps, sandwiches, soups
  • Dinner: Pasta, chicken, vegetarian options
  • Snacks: Muffins, granola bars, fresh fruit

What travel support is available?

We provide full airport support, including pick-up and drop-off, and assistance with coordinating flights and visa documentation. Participants should confirm their travel details with us at least 30 days before the program start date.

What are your COVID-19 policies?

We follow the most recent Canadian public health guidelines. While COVID-19 vaccination is not required, participants displaying symptoms will need to leave the program to prevent potential outbreaks.

What happens if the program is canceled?

If we must cancel due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., travel restrictions or natural disasters), participants will receive a full refund less a CAD 100 administration fee or a credit toward a future program. Refunds for partially completed programs will be prorated based on the remaining days.
